2002 Queen Street West, Toronto – too much for MUCH?
On the west side of Canada’s parliament is the cozy shelter for the cats who are allowed free access to the interior of the buildings, presumable through a tunnel system. The shelter sits atop a steep hillside which likely is used as their litterbox. I’m told these admirable felines keep the rodent population away from all the treasured documents and books.

In Kingston, Ontario, sits old Fort Henry, which is placed where the St. Lawrence River meets Lake Ontario., gateway into the Great Lakes Basin.

Great collection of photographs, Ontario looks very picturesque.
There is a great deal of variance in the Ontario landscape because of the vast amount of territory it contains… 415,000 square miles from the far north (Hudson’s Bay) to the warm climes of the south which lie on a parallel with Northern California. I’ve seen a lot of this province and, yet, I’ve seen very little of what there is to see. 🙂

First thanks for you visit to my neck of the woods!! Have enjoyed reading your bio and looking at the images. Like the studio pictures above a lot as I enjoy watching artists work. Also, noticed the Lovecraft book image…I tend to like those darker themes too..and the flavor of writing in that period..and Poe of course.

It’s one of my dreams to live in a home as you’ve shown in you pictures. The one in Kingston Ontario. We don’t have that kind of houses in Holland…
I’m familiar with Dutch houses as I grew up in a couple. 🙂
Deventer and Meerkerk are in my DNA.
But, yes, historic houses here can be quite spectacular and many of them survive today even with high heating and maintenance costs. Personally, I enjoy seeing the Victorian style. Lots of English roots here.
With this house on your photo I had to think about Pipi Langkous. Do you remember her? She used to live in a house similair to the photo.
At what age did you move to Canada? Do you still know Dutch? Sorry for all these questions. 😉
As for the language, I have retained a small child’s vocabulary but can still swear like a Dutch sailor. Amazing what really ‘sticks’. 🙂

Aaaah, I saw in you biography you’re from Holland origanilly!!! Nice to meet you! I’m from Wagenberg, it’s near to Breda.
Wagenberg looks to be a lovely little village, much like Meerkerk (of which I have my fondest memories where windmills, a cheese factory and fishing for bass take precedence. My parents and I moved from Holland in 1954.

Do you know if the statue of the couple with the baby in the air was created by Marshall Fredericks? I’m just curious because it looks like his work.
“The bronze sculpture is a life-sized depiction of a man and woman holding a child in the air. The statue was created by Hamilton artist William McElcheran, and donated to the city by the Italian-Canadian Community in 1985.”

Exactly right. We were heading out to British Columbia from Ontario and, when I became aware of that scene, I just HAD to stop and shoot it.
Well done. You’d be amazed what a little extra ‘work’ could do to such a shot;)
All I had was a Finepix3800 point and shoot, but it still looks great.

That, to someone such as myself, is a good question, especially on this particular page since there are few, if any, comments associated with these images. If you look at my Home page, however, you might find a little more offered on my daily postings, but, even there, I’m not inclined for writing much. Most likely this stems from a long history of being online in various venues which are, like WordPress, ‘member content driven’. The snarky TL;DR has cropped up far too often for me and, although it always made me a little disgusted when I saw it, it did affect how much I wrote.
However, I am always willing to be verbose in responding when prompted.

Thank you for liking my blog. I’ve enjoyed looking at your pictures – I’ve been to Toronto a couple of times (I have a friend who lives there) and have taken some good pictures. Unfortunately, they’re all on transparency. I guess I need to get one of those machines that turns them into digital!
I’m looking to invest in one myself. My father was a photographer and I now have all of his transparencies as well. Perhaps an Epsom V600… not sure yet.

Yes… it was in Guelph. Apparently it is undergoing some restoration at the moment.

I’ve been to Ontario Canada several years ago on a fishing trip and the surrounding landscape,lakes,etc are amazing.
Can’t agree more with your assessment of Ontario. It truly is a marvelous place once off the main routes and into the countryside.

Thank you for dropping by my amateur blog and also for the gorgeous array of photos here. It must be hard to take photos of books. I’m an amateur but was chosen for photo of the week(sky scene) few weeks back in a County Newspaper which is a great encouragement for me to learn more about how to photograph properly. I LOVE cats too and the first one is like my first cat Sponkey Cortez who had a tragic passing over 35 years ago. Thanks again.
The Sponky Cortez look-a-like is named Birdie (don’t ask why cuz I have no idea) and lives in Toronto with my son and his wife. She’s a lovely little lady who enjoys a belly rub but, if you do the wrong thing, is liable to give out a quick swat. Very spunky, that Birdie.
